I am partially disabled. Can I get partial disability benefits from Social Security?
No. With Social Security disability benefits, you are either disabled or not disabled.
Don’t take this to mean that you can’t work at all while getting Social Security disability benefits.
Social Security defines disability as the inability to earn substantial wages or perform substantial gainful activity (SGA). If you can’t earn SGA, you’ll generally be found disabled. If you can earn SGA, you won’t be entitled to benefits.
It’s also important to remember that any work you perform while receiving disability benefits can affect your entitlement to those benefits if your earnings go above the SGA level for that year.
